Swim team runs from mid-May to the last week of June. Practice is run by our coaches. There is a practice meet at the beginning of the season as well as an awards banquet at the end of the season. Both of these are held at the pool.

  • $125 - 2nd swimmer
  • $110 - 3rd swimmer & more
  • $60 Swimmers 15 and older

Your registration fees cover use of the pool during practice times, swim coaching, a Cobb County Summer Swim League fee, team T shirt, ribbons, and lots of outside fun!

3. Is my child old enough to be on the team?

Children who are aged 5 by May 31st, 2026, and who are able to swim one length of the pool unassisted (Cobb County Summer League policy) are welcome to join the Piranhas and participate in swim meets.

Children who are aged 3 by May 31st and/or who cannot yet swim one length of the pool unassisted may join our Rookies League. Our great coaches will make tremendous progress with our youngest swimmers in a surprisingly short time. Practices are conducted in small 2-4 person groups with an in-water and hands-on coach. There is a special Piranhas meet at our pool the during our end of the year banquet. Participation ribbons will be given.

4. What time is practice?

Practice times are in the afternoon during school days, and then in the mornings once Cobb County schools are closed. More detailed information can found on the website under the "Practice" tab.

5. When and where are the swim meets?

ALL home meets are held at the GQMF pool. The address is 2842 Gant Quarters Dr, Marietta, GA 30068. The first 2025 meet will be held Wednesday, May 27th, and then held on Tuesday nights starting June 2nd.

This summer, every Piranhas swimmer will have the opportunity to participate 7 meets! (That's a busy June!) This includes 3 regular home meets at our GQMF Pool and 2 away meets AND 2 large-scale meets against other teams: Georgia Games and Patti Wilder Cobb County Championship.

We HIGHLY encourage ALL swimmers to participate in the Patti Wilder Cobb County Championship Meet and/or the Georgia Games (details on our website for both).  These meets are open to swimmers of all speeds and abilities! They provide us a chance to see what a “real” USA Swimming swim meet is like! GQMF swimmers who qualify at the County Meet are eligible to swim on the Cobb County team at the state meet.

6. My child wants to come to swim practice, but doesn't want to do meets. Is that OK?

All swimmers are encouraged to swim in at least two meets.

7. Is it OK if we have to miss a swim meet?

Yes. But please let the coaches know in advance of any dates your swimmer will be missing. This is done by "declaring" your swimmer's availability on the website. Coaches prepare the line up for a meet 48 hours in advance. We count on your swimmer being there and so does the rest of the team. If an emergency occurs on the day of the meet, please call one of the coordinators directly.

8. My child has changed his mind about swim team. Can I get a refund?

If you change your mind before the first swim meet - yes. There are no refunds after the first swim meet. Refunds will not be made for any prepaid swimwear purchases.

9. Do I need to buy a team suit and where do I get one?

If you child will be swimming in the meets, then we recommend that you buy a team suit. Rookies will not swim in the regular swim meets and therefore will not need a team suit, but you are certainly allowed to buy one if you wish! There will be a swimsuit fitting before the start of the season, where your child will be able to try on a suit to determine his/her size. We will then place your order if the size is not immediately available. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT IT TAKES 3-4 WEEKS FOR SUITS TO ARRIVE. You may use a previous year suit. You may use a red, black or red/black combo swimsuit. Boys should wear a tight-fitting suit. Loose swim trunks are not recommended.

10. As swim team members, are we allowed to use the pool?

Membership to GQMF swim team permits you to use the swim facilities only during regular swim team practice hours, team events and meets. Swimming at any other time without home ownership (or without joining the HOA) is not permitted.

Please be aware:  Younger and non-participating siblings may not swim during practice or meet times.

11. Will we have practice or swim meets if it's raining?

Practices - As a general rule we will not hold practices if there is thunder or lightning in the area. But we will swim in the rain! When possible, we will notify swimmers as soon as a decision is made via an email, on our team Facebook page, or a posting on the gate of the pool. If in doubt, please check your email prior to practices for the latest update.

Meets- the same applies. If you do not receive notification, come ready to swim! We will try to get the meet in if at all possible, if it is safe to swim. The Cobb County Referee is responsible for making the decision to delay or cancel in the event of inclement weather during a meet.

12. Are private swim lessons available?

Individual swim lessons may be available from our coaches for an additional fee. See our swim coordinators for details.

13. Do I have to volunteer? I have small children / My spouse travels / I can't come to the meet and my child is going with our babysitter/his grandparents.

We will make every effort to help you find an arrangement that works for you. But, yes, if you have a child swimming in the meet, you are required to provide 1 volunteer for at least two meets. This can be you, your spouse, a grandparent, a teenage sibling, a babysitter, etc. It takes A LOT of people to make a swim meet run! We appreciate your service so our kids can have a great experience.

14. I signed up to volunteer but something came up at the last minute and I can't make it!

Please call another parent on the team to fill in your spot. Once you have a replacement let the volunteer coordinator know.

15. When and where do I get my ribbons?

Ribbons will be in your file in the file box at the pool on Friday mornings.

16. I think there was a mistake with my child's ribbon / I was expecting a ribbon that wasn't in my file. Can I still get one?

Contact the Coordinator with questions about ribbons

17. Where should I park during practices and for swim meets?

During practices you can park in the spaces in front of the pool. You may also park on the right hand side of the roads surrounding the pool. On home meet days, some parking spaces will be closed so that swim team staff (GQMF and opposing) and county officials have space to park. Details about parking at the away meets are located in the information about the meets under the "Swim Meets" tab.

18. Will there be a team photograph?

Individual and team photos will be taken and are purchased separately. Please see the calendar for the date of this year's picture session. Details will be sent out with more information.
